The racial discourse in the christian journal Anaplasis from the 1887 until the beginning of the 20th century
The study studies the racial discourse in the Christian journal Anaplasis from 1887 until the beginning of the 20th century. It focuses on the use of the term race, the references to the biological and cultural superiority/inferiority of races and the identification of the terms race and nation. Emphasis is paid on the role that Christianity plays in the distinction between racial and national groups and how it contributes to the creation of the modern Hellenic identity. Most articles in the journal refer to Darwin’s theory. Therefore, the theory of evolution is placed at the center of attention in the present study.
